How Amazon and Laundry Almost Made Me Ghost You
Uncategorized
Aug 04, 2024
Recently I received a nice email from someone who’s selling something. We’ve been in touch over LinkedIn. It’s a SAAS product I’ve (sort of) expressed interest in.
He’s following up. I read his email, he wants to arrange a video call. I click on ‘reply’.
Suddenly the door bell rings. I go answer. It’s Amazon delivery. Yay. Nice.
Ok, back at the desk. I’m thirsty. I get a glass of water.
Back at the desk. Oops, the washing is still in the machine. Take care of it.
I return to the desk. There’s an email from a client that needs to be answered ASAP. Then my kid walks in because he needs help with his math homework. All’s good.
Another day over. Off to bed.
5 days later, I’m decluttering my inbox. There’s a draft open.
It’s to that guy in Product Sales. Oh shucks. I’ve been meaning to get back to him. Today, I did. (In the meantime he checked up on me, and I’d missed that in the daily email flood as well).
There’s a lesson here for jobseekers and sales people: Not everyone is ghosting you. They’re just very, very distracted.
The fortune is in the follow up.
So, follow up. Do it.
If you don't enjoy writing emails especially on the art of follow up, worry not, S.
